The Duty of Doctor
Once upon a time, in a bustling hospital, a doctor received an urgent call that summoned him for a life-saving surgery. Without a moment's hesitation, he rushed to the hospital, changed into his surgical attire, and headed straight for the operating room.
As he hurried down the hospital corridor, his path crossed with the worried and agitated father of a young boy who was in critical condition. The father, his face filled with anxiety and anger, couldn't contain his frustration and yelled at the doctor, "Why did you take all this time to come? Don't you know that my son's life is in danger? Don't you have a sense of responsibility?"
The doctor, undeterred by the father's outburst, managed a gentle smile and replied, "I am sorry, I wasn't in the hospital when I received the call. I came as swiftly as I could. Now, please, I implore you to calm down so that I can do my work."
But the father's anger continued to burn, and he retorted, "Calm down?! What if your son was in this room right now, would you calm down? If your own son dies now, what will you do?!"
The doctor, still calm and composed, smiled once more and responded with a profound statement, "I will say what Job said in the Holy Book: 'From dust we came and to dust we return, blessed be the name of God.' Doctors cannot prolong lives. Go and intercede for your son; we will do our best, by God's grace."
Muttering to himself, the father couldn't help but murmur, "Giving advice when we're not concerned is so easy."
Hours passed as the doctor tirelessly worked on the surgery. Finally, he emerged from the operating room with a jubilant expression and exclaimed, "Thank goodness! Your son is saved!" Without waiting for the father's response, he hurried on his way, saying, "If you have any questions, ask the nurse!"
Perplexed and still somewhat resentful, the father turned to the nurse who had been waiting nearby. Tears welled up in her eyes as she revealed the doctor's secret, "His son died yesterday in a road accident. He was at the burial when we called him for your son's surgery. And now, after saving your son's life, he shares this story in your words, title, and moral."
The father was left in stunned silence, overwhelmed by the doctor's dedication and the incredible burden he had carried while performing the life-saving surgery.
Moral of the Story: This tale teaches us the profound importance of empathy, professional dedication, perspective, and refraining from hasty judgments in our interactions with others. It reminds us that there is often more to people's actions than meets the eye, and a little understanding can go a long way in making the world a better place.
